Rebirth of the Charming Girl in Space

 Chapter 198:

Toward Zi Shu

After pulling both the child and the dog up, Murong Lingran was exhausted, sitting on the ground, breathing heavily.

Glancing at the large black dog that had been sitting on the ground staring at her since it arrived, she thought, "This black dog is enormous, even taller than me. It looks well-fed, almost like a domesticated pet."

Observing its sleek and clean coat, Murong Lingran felt an itch in her hands. She reached out and touched it.

Hmm, the texture was quite nice. She wondered if this dog was a unique breed in Xuanqing Kingdom; it looked different from the dogs she had seen before.

In the 21st century, Murong Lingran had wanted to raise a large dog, thinking it would attract a lot of attention when walking it. Her parents, upon learning of her desire, took her to a distant relative's house, where they had an Alaskan Malamute, to let her try.

To her surprise, the Alaskan Malamute was always kept indoors and got overly excited every time it went out. Instead of her walking the dog, it felt like the dog was walking her.

Afraid the dog might run away or frighten elderly people and children, she held the leash tightly. Even so, she nearly fell several times due to the dog's enthusiasm.

After finally managing to bring the dog back to her relative's house, she was utterly exhausted, having almost run out of breath. Later, she learned that the male relative was the one who always walked the dog, as the female relative couldn't control it.

Since then, she had never entertained the thought of raising a large dog again.

Although one could keep a dog caged or confined to the house, not taking it out for walks would be cruel to the animal.

The big black dog allowed Murong Lingran to touch it without resisting, closing its eyes as if enjoying the attention.

The weather had been overcast since early morning, providing a cool atmosphere. However, in the forest, it gave off a gloomy feeling.

A chilly wind blew, causing the child, already soaked in sweat from the morning's ordeal, to shiver.

"Sister." The child, frightened, glanced around and timidly spoke, "Sister, I'm scared. Let's leave this place quickly. There are many wild beasts here, and if they find us, it'll be bad."

Murong Lingran withdrew her hand, no longer bothering with the big black dog. She helped the child up from the ground, inspected him, and seeing that he was only a bit disheveled with no visible wounds, she said casually, "If you want me to take you out, answer my questions seriously."

"Okay." The obedient child nodded.

"What's your name, why did you come here, and how long have you been stuck in there? Tell me everything."

Given the circumstances, it wasn't unreasonable for her to be suspicious of a child appearing in this place.

The child spoke earnestly, "Sister, my name is Xiang Zishu. My elder brother and I came here to hunt, but we encountered a wild boar. In order to protect me, my brother placed me in a tree."

"But when I saw that the wild boars had left a long time ago and my brother hadn't come to find me, I got scared. Afraid he forgot about me or got lost, I climbed down from the tree to look for him."

"Unexpectedly, I was chased by this big black dog. I don't know how long we ran, but we ended up here, and I fell into this pit."

"I don't know exactly how long I've been down here, probably more than half an hour."

Murong Lingran nodded; the child seemed coherent and not frightened out of his wits. She understood everything. She then glanced displeasedly at the big black dog and said, "Bullying a child, you sure have some skills."

Is anyone else hoping we keep this “not a dog”? He sounds cute! It’ll probably scare the heck out of grandma! 😂
