Favoring Concubines and Destroying Wives? I Refuse to be the Mistress of this Marquis' Mansion
Chapter 31:
Punished
"Old Madam, because of my ignorance, I've caused a few embarrassing situations before. That's why I thought about learning a few words, to understand more principles," Ga Bao'er explained. "Qing Ge'er is mischievous, and there will be more occasions to teach him principles in the future. He's still young, and he listens to my random talks. When he grows up and becomes disobedient, if I, as his mother, don't understand anything, how can I advise him?"
Ge Bao'er knelt on the ground, speaking with sincerity.
Old Madam also found it reasonable. If Qing Ge'er doesn't accept Lin Yunwan's discipline and only listens to Ge Bao'er, it would be inappropriate for him to have an ignorant and foolish birth mother. She had no choice but to warn Ge Bao'er, "Read proper books. If I find out you dare to read idle or forbidden books in the mansion, don't blame me for taking drastic measures!"
"I understand the seriousness of this matter, and I dare not read anything inappropriate," Ge Bao'er assured.

Later that evening...
Liu Zhengliu came over to pay respects to Old Madam. When he heard about Qing Ge'er wanting to change his teacher, he furrowed his brows. After hesitating for a while, he commented, "He's been wild outside for the past seven years. We need to discipline him properly in the future."
Old Madam didn't refute and instead said, "He's still young, and he hasn't been back for long. Let's take it slowly."
"Alright."
Old Madam sighed, expressing regret, "Raising a child is no easy task. Yunwan is truly skilled at it. Today, I finally realize her value!"
Liu Zhengliu smirked, "Of course, Grandmother chose her personally."
Old Madam looked at him suspiciously.
Liu Zhengliu immediately wiped the smile off his face.
Old Madam then asked him, "Now that you've visited your mother-in-law and your little brother-in-law, how is your relationship with them?"
"It's fine. My mother-in-law is treating me very kindly."
Old Madam advised, "In the future, remember Yunwan's family more. After all, she is your lawfully wedded wife."
Uncharacteristically, Liu Zhengliu didn't argue and simply replied, "Understood."
Old Madam noticed the change in his attitude, and a smile appeared on her face.
Liu Zhengliu didn't understand why his grandmother was smiling. Seizing the opportunity, he asked, "Grandmother, before Yunwan married into our family, did she..."

"Did she what?"
Liu Zhengliu hesitated and then said, "Nothing." He continued, "It's getting late; I'll take my leave."
Thinking to himself that it might not be a good idea for his grandmother to know, he decided to find out on his own.
As he left the hall, passing by the side room, he noticed that Ge Bao'er's room still had two brightly lit lamps. She had opened the window and was standing by it, looking at him.
Ge Bao'er smiled at him.
It reminded him of the times when he returned to the country, and she eagerly awaited his return.
A maid passed through the courtyard.
"Master."
Liu Zhengliu snapped out of his thoughts and walked away.
Ge Bao'er's smile faded, and a sense of disappointment filled her heart.
After returning to the Lu family, their opportunities to meet had become increasingly rare. However, this was her own choice, and she willingly came back.
"Since it's a decision I made myself, I won't regret it," she murmured softly.

The mansion of Wu Ding Marquis had been peaceful for several days.
Qing Ge'er, along with Lu Chang Gong, diligently woke up early for studies. Although his spirits were gradually declining during class, he became more lively during the time outside of lessons.
On this particular day, they came together to pay respects to Lin Yunwan.
Lu Chang Gong walked briskly, showing no intention to wait for Qing Ge'er.
Carrying a slingshot, Qing Ge'er trailed behind, shouting, "Stop right there!"
Lu Chang Gong, wary of the potential pain, quickened his pace.
Undeterred, Qing Ge'er launched another shot, hitting Lu Chang Gong on the back of his head. Lu Chang Gong, holding his head, turned to glare at him.
"You dare to glare at me? Who told you to glare at me?" Qing Ge'er said nonchalantly, showing no remorse for his actions.
Lu Chang Gong walked over, suppressing his anger, and said, "If you hit me again, I'll go tell Mother."
Qing Ge'er grinned, "Go ahead! If you tell Mother, I'll tell Grandmother that you started it."

Lu Chang Gong was very frustrated because he knew that Grandmother would believe his younger brother, and Grandmother held a higher position in terms of seniority than Mother. So, if things escalated, he would not fare well and might even implicate his mother.
He wasn't afraid of getting punished himself, but he was afraid of involving his mother.
Lu Chang Gong said, "I'll be waiting for you. Hurry up, don't make Mother wait for us."
Qing Ge'er pouted and followed, saying unhappily, "You should have listened to me earlier. It would have been so much better if you just obeyed me, like a servant attending to me."
Lu Chang Gong's delicate face tightened, and he didn't want to engage with him.
"Are you angry?" Qing Ge'er teased.
"I am the older brother, and you are the younger brother. The elder brother is like a father; you should listen to me," Lu Chang Gong said earnestly, reciting the principles he had learned from his studies.
Qing Ge'er burst into laughter, holding his stomach. "You're such a fool! This is my house, and I'm the master here. Why should I listen to you?"
Lu Chang Gong's face turned red with embarrassment.
He knew he was adopted and couldn't understand why, apart from his mother and those close to her, everyone treated his younger brother better. Initially, no one spoke about it openly, and he could pretend not to know. But why did his brother have to proclaim it loudly?
Qing Ge'er found it even more amusing and laughed loudly, unaware even when his stepmother arrived.
"So, it seems Master Qing is in charge of the Lu family now?" Lin Yunwan approached from behind.
Both Qing Ge'er and Lu Chang Gong turned, one looking as if he had seen a ghost, and the other like he had found a savior.
Lu Chang Gong said, "Mother."
Qing Ge'er echoed, "Mother..."
Lin Yunwan looked down at Qing Ge'er with an air of superiority, and he immediately became obedient.
With a cold snort, Ping Ye interrogated him, "Young Master Qing, where did you learn such words? I will report to the Old Madam immediately, and you'll be punished severely!"
Qing Ge'er turned pale with fear.
Where did he learn it? Of course, it was from his mother. She told him that he was the only true heir of the Lu family.
The entire Lu family's future belonged to him, and he needed to study well.
Only then would the servants, including Lu Chang Gong, always obey him.

He dared not reveal this and pouted, looking like he wanted to cry.
"Ping Ye, go inform Teacher Zhang, saying that I'll keep the Second Young Master with me for the day."
"Yes."
After that, Lin Yunwan went to the Chui Si Pavilion, and Lu Chang Gong followed her.
Ping Ye looked at Qing Ge'er with disdain and said, "If the Second Young Master wants to cry, he can go to the Madam's courtyard and cry his heart out." She ordered the maids to escort him there.
"Mother, I was wrong. I won't dare again."
"Mother, please spare me..."
Qing Ge'er stood in the courtyard, enduring the punishment. The ruler fell, and he clenched his palms, only to have them pried open by the maids.
It seemed as if Lin Yunwan couldn't hear his cries as she continued to apply medicine to Lu Chang Gong.
"Such a foolish child. He bullies you, and you endure it?"
Lu Chang Gong lowered his head, facing away from Lin Yunwan, and said, "Mother, don't worry, your son can endure it."
Lin Yunwan frowned. "It's swollen, isn't it painful?"
Lu Chang Gong pressed his lips together.
"Madam, the Second Young Master has been standing punishment for an hour," one of the servants informed Lin Yunwan.
Finally, Lin Yunwan instructed Ping Ye, "Let him go."
Ping Ye went out and said, "Young Master, you can go back now."
Qing Ge'er, exhausted from crying, went to complain to the Yu Shou Tang like a wilted eggplant.
Tao Ye entered, lifting the curtain softly. She whispered, "Madam, the Eldest Young Master seems to be sleeping much heavier during his nap than yesterday."
Lin Yunwan sighed, "With such injuries, he should rest properly."
Tao Ye sighed softly, "Just when Young Master Qing seemed to behave, why did he become even worse?"
Lin Yunwan smirked coldly.
In the previous life, she had always been troubled. Qing Ge'er's temperament fluctuated between good and bad phases. While it was true that the Old Madam favored him, she didn't intentionally spoil his character. The fundamental reason was instigated by Ge Bao'er!
"Madam, Young Master Chang Gong is intelligent. He probably refrained from escalating the situation because of the Old Madam's fondness for Young Master Qing. However, it's not a solution for him to keep tolerating this..." The servant advised.
Lin Yunwan closed her eyes, determined, and said, "Chang Gong is my legitimate eldest son. There is no reason for a legitimate eldest son to endure his younger brother's behavior. I won't let him endure it any longer!"
Since Ge Bao'er was so eager to have Qing Ge'er become the master of the Lu family, she would make sure that their wishes come true!
