 Chapter 12:

 Gossip, The Unlucky Relationship

"Mom, Dad, think about it. Even if we go back to our previous spot, do we want people to call us 'the family on the east side of the pier' every time?" Lou Jian Jia countered. "Besides us, there's now a herbal tea shop on the east side of the pier, and there might be more coming."

Old Master Chu pondered for a moment and thought it made sense.

"But if we give our stall a name, people will know which one is ours in the future. No matter where we are, others will just recognize the name instead of worrying about the location," Lou Jian Jia said.

Madam Zhao also came back to her senses at this point, saying, "It's just like the rice shop in our county town. Everyone likes to go to Yun Ji. Even if Yun Ji moves, everyone can still find it without confusion."

Lou Jian Jia nodded when she heard this. "Yes, just like Mom said."

Finally, a relaxed smile appeared on Old Master Chu and Madam Zhao's faces.

However, amidst the excitement, there was also some nervousness. Madam Zhao said, "But isn't it the big businesses that usually give names? Would it be appropriate for our small business to give itself a name?"

Lou Jian Jia smiled faintly and said, "Mom, don't worry. The government does not have regulations on how much profit you need to make before you can give a name."

Madam Zhao nodded in agreement, saying, "That's true."

Old Master Chu took over the conversation and reached a conclusion: "Then let's give it a name."

After saying that, he turned to Lou Jian Jia and asked, "What should we name it?"

Lou Jian Jia had thought about this question. The simplest name would be "Chu's Place." However, she didn't plan to have a lifelong partnership with Chu Weileng. Moreover, she would rely on this business to make a living in the future. If they named it "Chu's Place," it would be troublesome if she and Chu Wei Leng parted ways later on.

"Our restaurant has many regular customers, many of whom come back for a second taste. How about we name it 'Memory Lane'?" Lou Jian Jia suggested.

Old Master Chu and Madam Zhao weren't particularly educated and didn't have many ideas. They trusted Lou Jian Jia more because they knew her grandfather had been educated. So, they had no objections and nodded in agreement.

"I'll go make the sign right away," Old Master Chu said after the discussion.

Madam Zhao hurriedly urged, "Go quickly."

Then she added, "Actually, I'll go with you. Let's pick a good board together."

Lou Jian Jia sighed softly as she watched the two of them bustling around.

Old Master Chu and Madam Zhao were both kind-hearted individuals who never entertained thoughts of seeking revenge or retaliating against those who mistreated them.

Thinking about the troublesome Sun family, Lou Jian Jia pursed her lips.

The male protagonist would be back soon. She decided to leave dealing with this family to him.

After tidying up, seeing that there wasn't much to help with in the courtyard, Lou Jian Jia went back inside to rest.

After a while, she heard someone arrive.

From the sound of the voice, she could tell it was Madam Wang from next door.

After Madam Wang arrived, she inquired about what Old Master Chu and Madam Zhao were up to.

Madam Zhao explained their thoughts and also recounted what happened at the pier today.

Madam Wang, upon hearing this, became very angry. Her voice grew louder as she berated the Sun family.

"They truly have no conscience! They can't make a living on their own, so they specialize in stealing from others. They even want to snatch away our place. They're just bullying because Young Master Leng isn't home!"

Old Master Chu and Madam Zhao also understood this reasoning, but when they thought of their son, their expressions turned grim, and they fell silent.

Madam Wang squeezed Madam Zhao's hand and said, "Sister-in-law, don't worry. Since Young Master Leng isn't home, tomorrow I'll have my son, Sheng, go with you to reclaim the place. It's also a way to let them know that there are still people from the Chu family in our village."

Madam Zhao, seeing Madam Wang so angry, turned to comfort her in return. "No need. Young Master Leng's wife has already come up with a plan. Once we put up a sign tomorrow, the customers won't go to the wrong place anymore."

"Do you mean to let them get away with this? Not only are they trying to steal your business by making the same things as you, but they also want to make money using your land. It's shameless! Bah!" Madam Wang continued to rant.

Madam Zhao and Old Master Chu certainly didn't like the Sun family's actions.

However, their personalities were naturally gentle, and with their son not at home, they felt weakened in their resolve.

"Speaking of which, it's all that son and daughter-in-law's fault," Madam Wang shifted the topic while continuing to complain. "Village Chief Dan's son is married to Madam Li."

"His wife? What does she have to do with this?" Madam Zhao asked in confusion.

Madam Wang had come specifically to discuss this matter today, and upon seeing Madam Zhao's curiosity, she immediately began to explain: "How is she not related? You don't know, today I heard from people in the village that the Sun family is connected to her maternal family. There's some kind of connection. I also heard that some time ago, members of the Sun family visited the village chief's house to visit relatives. Your business must have been sabotaged by Madam Li."

Madam Wang's voice was indeed loud, and Lou Jian Jia could hear everything clearly from inside the house. She thought to herself that she hadn't guessed wrong; it was indeed related to Madam Li.

Madam Zhao hadn't expected this turn of events and was suddenly astonished. She felt both puzzled and angry about Madam Li's actions.

Her typically mild demeanor started to harden.

"Why would she do such a thing? Our family hasn't done anything to her," she said with a hint of firmness.

Madam Wang glanced in the direction of Lou Jian Jia and lowered her voice slightly. "What else could it be? It's because of your son, of course."

Even though Madam Wang lowered her voice, Lou Jian Jia still heard the words about the male protagonist.

"My son?" Old Master Chu also raised his head, looking towards Madam Wang.

Seeing the perplexed expressions of the two, Madam Wang raised her voice slightly. "Is it possible that you two don't know about this?"

Seeing Madam Zhao shaking her head, Madam Wang hesitated for a moment but decided to speak up.

"These are things I shouldn't be discussing as an elder, but I also don't want you to be kept in the dark," Madam Wang said. "I heard that Madam Li used to have feelings for your son and even gave some gifts to your son in private. But your son didn't reciprocate her feelings. That's where the grudge started."

Lou Jian Jia, who had been eavesdropping by the window since hearing the male protagonist's name, had three words popping into her mind at this moment.

"Disaster follows infatuation."
