Rebirth of the Charming Girl in Space

 Chapter 250:

 East Sea Mansion

"Mother," Mrs. Chen looked unwilling, "It's been so many years, is it appropriate to ask for it now?"

Originally, her maternal family set a repayment deadline, assuming her father had no shortage of money.

Back then, Murong Zhe worked as a physician, regularly providing the elderly couple with substantial silver as gifts, totaling much more than the owed amount.

When her maternal family left, they made it clear they wouldn't repay.

If she suddenly went to ask for the money now, she would lose face, and she hadn't visited them in years, unaware of their current situation.

If their lives were difficult, asking for money would only make things worse for her maternal family.

"Nothing inappropriate! Debts must be repaid. If you don't go, then find money yourself to marry off your son; I won't interfere anymore," Madam Liu insisted.

Afraid his mother would really stop caring, Murong Qi promptly pledged, "Mother, rest assured, I'll retrieve that money."

Having money and not claiming it would be foolish; little did he expect to become a creditor one day.

It was originally the Murong family's money, from his father's private funds. Retrieving it would resolve their current difficulties.

"No time to waste; set off immediately," Madam Liu urged.

"But, Mother, if I leave, who will cook for you? Who will handle household chores?" Mrs. Chen persisted.

Madam Liu glanced at Murong Xue, "Isn't there your reluctant daughter? She can help. I won't wait."

Murong Xue looked disheartened, knowing her days would be tough with added responsibilities.

Murong Qi, with a leg injury, hesitated, "Mother, my leg is still healing. The journey is long; it might worsen the injury. Can we wait a few days?"

Seeing his bandaged leg, Madam Liu felt sympathy but retorted, "Your wound isn't deep. You'll be on a hired carriage, sitting throughout the journey. By the time you reach your father-in-law's house, it might even have healed."

Murong Qi was speechless.

Madam Liu found the reasoning valid and abandoned the idea of letting him recover first.

Knowing persuasion was futile, Mrs. Chen asked about travel expenses, but Madam Liu rebuffed her, citing previous earnings and accusing her of embezzling.

Unable to argue, Mrs. Chen gave up.

Taking advantage of the good weather, the two quickly packed and made simple provisions before heading back to their hometown, Daquan Village, near the capital, East Sea Mansion.

As for the drama in this side of town, Murong Lingran's family remained blissfully unaware. Murong Lingran, eager not to keep her father waiting, bought all the books he wanted the next day after delivering fruits and soup to her mother. Then started focusing on studying her flour craft.
