 Chapter 64:

Prince Huaiyang watched Liu Mian Tang's clumsy attempts to manipulate the abacus with a single finger and reached out to take it from her. His long fingers moved with swift precision, making the abacus dance like an ancient musical instrument, with a fluidity that was both graceful and efficient. Within moments, he had organized the accounts clearly.

Liu Mian Tang, curious, asked him when he had become so skilled. However, Prince Huaiyang merely gave her a stern look and did not respond.

There was one thing that troubled Liu Mian Tang, though. Despite the old healer’s remarkable skills, Prince Huaiyang's leg seemed to show no significant improvement. Recently, he had even commissioned a craftsman to make a blackened wooden wheelchair, which he used during his walks around the estate, with Liu Mian Tang pushing him.

Seeing him in the wheelchair made Liu Mian Tang feel uncomfortable. “Didn’t you say it wasn’t serious? Why are you still using a wheelchair? If I had known it would come to this, I would never have used that medicine! Where can I find the eagle bone flower? I’ll go out and find it for you!”

Prince Huaiyang, however, did not respond. It wasn’t until mealtime, when he had dismissed the servants and they were alone, that he finally spoke: “In truth, my leg has improved a lot. However, the court is pressing me to return to the capital, and now is not the right time to go. I’d prefer to delay as long as possible.”

At first, Prince Huaiyang's injury looked terribly frightening, almost exposing the white bone. However, it has gradually healed, with new flesh growing in and the wound looking much better now.

Truthfully, Liu Mian Tang had begun to suspect that his injury might have been exaggerated. Hearing his explanation only confirmed her suspicions.

She stared at him and asked, "Did you deliberately get injured because you didn’t want to marry the princess?"

Prince Huaiyang did not respond but his silence was confirmation enough.

Liu Mian Tang was both annoyed and exasperated. If she had known he was pretending, she wouldn’t have come willingly, and now she felt trapped by his scheme.

Moreover, if he was turning down a princess, she wondered what kind of woman he intended to marry in the future.

With her mind racing with thoughts, Liu Mian Tang asked, “In a few days, when my splints come off, how much longer will you need to keep me here?”

Prince Huaiyang picked up a fried shrimp and placed it in Liu Mian Tang’s bowl. “Your uncle will be in Youzhou for a few days. Today he happens to be free, so I’ve sent someone to invite him over. We can have lunch with him as well.”

Liu Xian had finally tracked Liu Mian Tang to Youzhou.

When Liu Mian Tang heard that her uncle was being invited, she put down her bowl and said, “Why are you inviting him, Your Highness? You’re so busy with your affairs; don’t waste your time on this. I’ll just go back with my uncle.”

However, Prince Huaiyang paid her no mind and went ahead with summoning Liu Xian.

Liu Mian Tang was anxious and frowned, “What exactly are you trying to do?”

Prince Huaiyang, accustomed to her fluctuating demeanor of pretense and disregard, merely raised an eyebrow and said, “You asked me not to punish Fan Hu and his crew, and I complied. I’m just having a word with your uncle. What’s the fuss? If you don’t like it, you can learn some manners from Li Mama tomorrow.”

Seeing him assume a regal attitude, Liu Mian Tang held back her frustration and knelt down, “May I ask, Your Highness, what is the purpose of meeting my uncle?”

Prince Huaiyang raised an eyebrow and said, “Just to remind him that after taking you back, he shouldn’t rush into arranging a marriage for you. Otherwise, I’ll lead ten thousand soldiers to West Prefecture to handle it myself!”

Meanwhile, Liu Xian, who had arrived at the Youzhou inn, was breathless and agitated upon finding that Liu Mian Tang was not there. He learned that she was being held at the hot spring villa where Prince Huaiyang was staying.

Liu Xian was furious and distressed, thinking, "How could these two old enemies end up in the same place? This is a dire situation!?
