Tale of Two Phoenixes
Chapter 9:
The green bamboo accompanied the sparse phoenix trees.
Most of the people had left, and even the long silk cushions were mostly removed, except for the one in front of her, the princess.
The surroundings were almost empty now, but Yue Jiefei had been standing not far behind her the whole time. Chu Yu turned her head to look at Yue Jiefei's tall figure and said, "Yue Jiefei, go ahead and stand in front. Don't look at me."

Yue Jiefei's expression suddenly became somewhat strange, as if he had thought of something. His face blushed slightly, and he obediently walked forward about ten steps, as she instructed.
Seeing Yue Jiefei blush, Chu Yu's face turned a bit green. Did he just misunderstand her intentions, thinking she was going to do something inappropriate? Actually, the reason she asked everyone to leave first was because... Chu Yu suddenly frowned, struggling to move her body. She placed her hands on the ground, freeing her numb legs from underneath her. Sitting for too long had made her legs fall asleep.
She clenched her fists and knocked on her legs, trying to bring back sensation. The tingling sensation gradually spread through her muscles. After massaging her legs to relieve the suppressed blood flow, she stood up and took a few shaky steps. Chu Yu finally recovered, deciding that she would advocate for chairs to be used more often in the princess's residence in the future.
After walking around for a while to regain her mobility, Chu Yu sighed softly and called out to Yue Jiefei, "Come with me, I want to take a walk." She hadn't had a chance to explore the princess's residence properly yet.
Yue Jiefei replied, "Yes, I'll have someone bring the sedan chair over." In the past, whenever they had to walk a long distance, the Princess would always use a sedan chair for transportation.
Chu Yu shook her head and said, "No need, just accompany me on foot."
"Understood." Yue Jiefei responded verbally, but his eyes shifted nervously from side to side, avoiding eye contact with Chu Yu, as if she were some kind of wild beast. After a moment of hesitation, he asked tentatively, "Does the Princess need to invite a few more people to accompany us?"
Chu Yu was initially puzzled by his question, but upon seeing his expression, she suddenly realized what he was getting at. He was worried that she might take advantage of their alone time to do something inappropriate to the handsome gentleman, and was therefore hesitant.
Compared to the many handsome men in the Princess's residence, Yue Jiefei's appearance was barely passable. Despite this, he still seemed quite self-assured, which both amused and impressed Chu Yu.
Chu Yu felt both amused and irritated, wanting to say a few words to explain but then deciding it wasn't necessary. She gestured for him to follow and started walking towards the apricot forest.
As they walked, Chu Yu mentally noted the layout of the residence, gradually forming a partial map of the Princess's estate in her mind. The estate was divided into the outer residence and the inner courtyard, with strict hierarchical boundaries between the two. Those qualified to reside in the inner courtyard were trusted attendants and all male attendants, including one handsome groom. The outer residence housed guests, officials, and private guards. Initially surprised to learn about the private armed forces, Chu Yu later discovered that the power of the imperial family and nobility was still considerable, even allowing them to appoint officials within their own residences.
Since these matters were managed by others and wouldn't be dismantled, Chu Yu decided not to concern herself with them.
Although they stopped frequently along the way, walking and standing for over half an hour made Chu Yu feel tired. She was dissatisfied with the delicacy of her body, but knew it wasn't something that could be changed overnight.

Resting under a Chinese parasol tree, Chu Yu wiped the thin sweat from her forehead with her sleeve. Surrounding her were green bamboo and sparse phoenix trees, creating a tranquil and pleasant environment. The gentle rustling of leaves in the wind soothed her restless heart.
The Princess's residence was lush with flowers and abundant with greenery. While the gardens and artificial hills were beautiful and elegant, after seeing such scenery for a while, it inevitably felt dull. However, amidst the bamboo and phoenix trees, there was a different kind of elegance and tranquility.
Through the gaps in the bamboo, Chu Yu strained to see a white wall ahead. Behind the wall, there were also sparse phoenix trees and bamboo. She casually asked Yue Jiefly, "Whose residence is nearby?"
Without suspicion, Yue Jiefly replied without hesitation, "It's Lord Rong's Snowy Garden."
Chu Yu nodded lightly. Suddenly, she faintly saw someone walking towards them. She focused her gaze and saw an elegant and handsome young man, dressed in a robe that swayed gracefully as he walked, reminiscent of the elegance of ancient literati. He hadn't noticed Chu Yu hidden among the bamboo and walked hurriedly towards the Snowy Garden, pushing open the half-open vermilion door and disappearing inside.
Chu Yu noticed that there were no guards around the Snowy Garden, nor did she see any signs of security measures. It was precisely because of this that this place exuded such a tranquil and elegant atmosphere.
The young man's face was unfamiliar to Chu Yu, yet his appearance was so handsome. His identity quickly came to Chu Yu's mind—either he was her unseen husband-to-be, or one of the two male attendants who had claimed illness.
Chu Yu had been suspicious from the start. It was too coincidental for two attendants to fall ill on such a fine spring day. However, she needed further confirmation to unravel what was really going on.
As Chu Yu pondered her next move, another figure approached. It was the aloof young man with a melancholic demeanor whom she had seen at the banquet earlier. Like the previous person, he didn't notice her and walked towards the Snowy Garden.
Chu Yu vaguely remembered someone calling him Jiang Yan at the banquet.
"Hmm."
Chu Yu hummed softly. Was it a coincidence that she had just hosted a spring banquet in the apricot forest, and now Rongzhi was planning a spring celebration in his garden?
She casually plucked a fresh bamboo leaf and twirled it between her fingers. The soft leaf danced along with her movements, and a playful smile formed on Chu Yu's lips. It was quite interesting.
Tossing aside the torn leaf, she strode purposefully towards the Snowy Garden.
