Favoring Concubines and Destroying Wives? I Refuse to be the Mistress of this Marquis' Mansion

 Chapter 94:

 Write

"How is she today?"

Old Madam Lu asked about Ge Bao'er's condition again.

Yan Mama went to check and replied, "Much better. She doesn't cough as severely as she did all last night."

Teacher Zhang happened to have a day off today.

Old Madam Lu instructed, "Bring little Qing Ge'er to see his mother. Have someone help Ge Bao'er freshen up."

Yan Mama left and assigned a maid to assist Gao Bao'er with grooming. She then went to the second gate to deliver the message and call Qing Ge'er over.

"Can I really see my mother?!"

Qing Ge'er almost jumped off his chair. He had lost quite a bit of weight in recent days, and his eyes no longer sparkled as they did when he first arrived at the residence.

A servant said, "Young Master Qing, hurry up. Yan Mama is waiting in the corridor by the second gate. Don't let her wait for too long."

"I'm going right away!"

Qing Ge'er dropped what he was holding and sprinted off. During this period, he learned what it felt like to be treated worse than a dog. Although he sometimes resented his mother for causing so much trouble and making him face cold shoulders everywhere, deep down, he still cared for his birth mother.

Running to the second gate, he almost tripped.

"Yan Mama!"

Before entering the corridor, Qing Ge'er shouted at the top of his lungs.

Yan Mama stood up and waved, saying, "Ge'er, come with me. Your mother is waiting for you."

Qing Ge'er held her hand and followed. In Yu Shou Tang, Yan Mama said, "Ge'er, go and greet the Old Madam first, pay your respects to your grandmother."

Qing Ge'er nodded.

When Old Madam Lu saw him, she still showed affection, holding him in her arms and saying, "Good child, why did you become so thin?"

Qing Ge'er looked very aggrieved but lowered his head and said, "Little Brother has also lost weight from studying."

This sounded like a sensible remark.

Old Madam Lu felt that it might be a good thing for Qing Ge'er that Ge Bao'er was not in the residence. However...

But if Ge Bao'er truly has the status of a legitimate daughter from the public manor, it would be even better that she has returned.

With Qing Ge'er and even Zhuqing being pregnant, there will be more and more descendants of the Lu family in the future. It doesn't matter who gives birth; what matters is that Ge Bao'er's maternal family can help the children of the Lu family in the future.

She patted Qing Ge'er's head and said, "Go and see your mother. She must have missed you during this long time."

Qing Ge'er was already in tears as he ran to the wing room.

Old Madam Lu quietly followed.

In the corridor, she saw the mother and son embracing and crying together. The cries seemed to pierce through the sky.

Yan Mama, standing beside her, said, "Miss still can't bear to part with Young Master Qing."

Old Madam Lu was very satisfied. "It's good that she can't bear to part with him."

Looking at the way Gao Baor was crying, she chuckled and said, "Don't talk about being a legitimate daughter from the Duke's manor; even if she were a celestial being from the Nine Heavens, as long as she becomes a mother, she will still end up in our Wu Ding Marquis Manor!"

"Let's go."

Old Madam Lu and Yan Mama returned to the upper room to talk.

Old Madam Lu said, "The daughter from the public manor has been missing for twenty years, and the Duke's Madam is still sickly. It shows that the Duke's family also loves their daughter dearly."

Yan Mama said, "Even if they don't love her, after being missing for so many years, they still have to find a way to compensate for the lost daughter."

Old Madam Lu chuckled, "That's exactly the point."

"Besides, our Lu family is not lacking in status. If the daughter of the Duke's family falls to the point of serving as a maid and can still become our son-in-law's wife in the future, it's her good fortune."

"In the future, they should also properly support Zhengliu as their son-in-law!"

Yan Mama worried, "But our affair with the Lins..."

The scandal of the separation between the two families has caused a great uproar. If the people from the Duke's manor find out, they might be wary, and it's uncertain if they would be willing to proceed with this marriage.

Old Madam Lu snorted, "That's all for the sake of their daughter! If there's someone sensible in their family, they should know how to handle things to avoid hurting their daughter and still maintain face for our Lu family."

Yan Mama didn't argue further with Old Madam.

Before anything is set in stone, we need to confirm the identity of Concubine Ge.

Old Madam Lu took a short nap in her room and asked Yan Mama, "Have they finished talking, the mother and son?"

Yan Mama glanced outside and said, "Almost."

Old Madam Lu nodded, "Go and call Concubine Ge to come for a reply, and also summon Zhengliu over."

Ge Bao'er, holding Zhengliu, arrived first.

After this period of time returning to the residence of Marquis Wu Ding, she was no longer as bold as before. She knelt on the ground, respectfully saying, "This concubine pays respects to Old Madam."

Old Madam Lu was easygoing, "You're unwell, get up and talk."

Ge Bao'er, surprised by the favor, hesitated and said, "This concu... concubine prefers..."

"I said sit, so sit!"

Ge Bao'er nervously sat down, still tightly holding Zhengliu. She had too few chances to meet Zhengliu, fearing that this might be the last time. Qing Ge'er leaned against her, holding onto her sleeve.

Yan Mama came over and said, "The little master is getting older; it's not suitable to hug the mistress like this."

However, Old Madam Lu spoke gently, "It's fine this time. The mother and son haven't seen each other for too long."

"Yes," Yan Mama stepped aside.

Old Madam Lu directly asked Ge Bao'er, "The servant in the residence mentioned that you pawned a jade pendant before going to the estate. Is that true?"

What's the matter with the jade pendant?

Ge Bao'er widened her eyes and said, "Yes, yes. That's the jade pendant I've been wearing since childhood! Old Madam, did my husband... did he find out for me?"

Old Madam Lu raised her hand to silence her and said, "Don't ask so much for now. First, clarify whether the jade pendant belongs to you."

"Yes!"

Ge Bao'er nodded heavily, afraid of missing this opportunity.

She thought that once she went to the estate, she wouldn't be able to come back. Unexpectedly, the old lady could still send someone to bring her back, all because of the jade pendant! There must have been a major incident.

Old Madam Lu scrutinized Ge Bao'er, "You didn't lie?"

Ge Bao'er cried like rain, "It's something I've been wearing for over twenty years, something I've had since I started eating. How could I lie!"

Indeed, she didn't seem like she was lying.

Old Madam Lu felt a lot more at ease.

"Grandmother."

Lu Zhengliu arrived, his face still marked with injuries.

Old Madam Lu frowned, feeling a bit distressed, and temporarily put aside reproaching him. She said, "Come here, I have something to ask you."

Lu Zhengliu glanced at Ge Bao'er, his expression complex. Finally, he pursed his lips and asked Old Madam Lu, "Grandmother, why is she here?"

Old Madam Lu looked at him and inquired, "Does she have a jade pendant? Have you seen it before?"

Lu Zhengliu nodded, "Yes, it's a fine piece of Hetian jade."

Due to its excellent quality, with a color resembling mutton fat, it was also known as mutton fat jade.

"What's the issue with that jade pendant?"

Old Madam Lu could hardly contain her laughter. With a smile on her face, she said, "Yan Mama, please take Young Mistress and Young Master Qing downstairs."

Yan Mama went to Ge Bao'er's side and said, "Miss, Young Master Qing Ge'er, come with me."

The mother and son left first, and Yan Mama closed the door behind them.

Finally, Old Madam Lu asked Lu Zhengliu, "You met her in Lixiang Village in the countryside. When did you first see this jade pendant?"

Recalling their early days, Lu Zhengliu said, "I saw it from the time I met her. However, she treasured that jade pendant a lot, and she only let me see it a few times before we were engaged."

Still later, after they became intimate, she told him that the jade pendant had been with her since childhood. Even during the years when she served as a maid, she managed to preserve it.

Old Madam Lu burst into laughter.

"What's going on, Grandmother?" Lu Zhengliu asked, furrowing his brow.

Old Madam Lu didn't explain much. Instead, she took pen and ink and issued a command to Lu Zhengliu, "Write a letter of annulment. You and Yunwan will separate immediately."

"What?"

Lu Zhengliu stood up, much taller than the old madam. He walked to the side, angrily facing away from the old madam, saying, "I disagree. I won't divorce Yunwan!"

The Old Madam snorted coldly, calmly sitting down and said, "You must separate from her."

She was confident; her grandson wouldn't resist for long. After all, he had said he didn't want to marry the legitimate daughter of the Lins, but in the end, he still did.
