Favoring Concubines and Destroying Wives? I Refuse to be the Mistress of this Marquis' Mansion

 Chapter 59:

Mistress

"Yunwan, you are the mistress of the house. What do you think?"

Surprisingly, Old Madam Lu asked for her opinion.

Lin Yunwan didn't expect that; she thought even for the sake of Young Master Qing Ge'er, the Old Madam wouldn't be willing to let Ge Bao'er die.

Lin Yunwan calmly stated, "How to deal with adultery, does Old Madam Lu still need to ask me? —Death is not a pity!"

Madam Wei followed, "Exactly. She can die alone, and everyone will be at peace!"

Old Madam Lu lay in bed, silent. She didn't move an inch, as if seriously considering the opinions of her daughter-in-law and granddaughter-in-law.

In the end, she didn't say anything more and instead said, "I'm tired; you can all go back now."

Madam Wei anxiously stood up, saying, "Old Madam, you haven't mentioned how to handle this..."

Yan Mama came out to send her off, "Madam, Old Madam is tired, and you must be tired too. Please go back first."

Madam Wei had no choice but to leave. Just as she lifted the curtain to step outside, she was still muttering impatiently, "Do as you wish!"

According to her, it would be best to strangle her, burn her to ashes, and scatter them far away.

"Anyway, there aren't many people in Ge Bao'er's family. I really doesn't understand what Old Madam is hesitating about?"

Lin Yunwan was also about to leave when Madam Wei stopped her, saying, "Yunwan."

"Madam."

Madam Wei sat up and looked at her, saying, "You are the Madam of this household, the legal wife. You must not be petty like those women from small families. Don't bother with this matter, and don't let it weigh on your heart."

"Your days with Zhengliu are still long ahead."

"... Bao'er, it won't affect you two." As she spoke, a hint of killing intent appeared in her eyes.

Lin Yunwan responded calmly with a faint acknowledgment and then returned towards Chui Si Tang.

"Is there any other choice?" replied the Old Madam as she coughed violently. The Old Madam repeated, "Is there any other way?!"

"Old Madam, she is a troublemaker. I see that Young Master Zhenliu is gradually losing interest in her. It might be a good opportunity to act decisively..."

"Great-grandmother..."

They did not know when Qing Ge'er appeared outside, leaning on the door and standing there, looking at them with a frightened expression. Obviously, he overheard what they were talking about just now.

Yan Mama was scared, her heart nearly jumping out of her chest.

She put down the medicine bowl in her hand and anxiously asked, "Young Master Qing Ge'er, how did you come over?" Then scolded the maids outside, "Are you all blind? Didn't you know to announce when the young master arrived?"

The maid ran over nervously and said, "Just now, Young Madam, Madam and Old Madam were talking inside, and we didn't dare to approach. Young Master Qing came in just in the blink of an eye. We didn't see him."

Young Master Qing Ge'er was completely stunned.

Nanny Yan helplessly sent the maid away and led Young Master Qing into the room.

Old Madam quickly hugged him and said, "Are you worried that Great-Grandmother will drive away your mother?"

Young Master Qing widened his eyes, pursed his lips, and dared not speak.

Old Madam comforted him, saying, "Your mother made a mistake this time. Yan Mama and I discussed sending her away, and it frightened you, didn't it?"

Young Master Qing finally regained his composure and burst into tears. "Great-Grandmother, I thought..."

The news of his mother's supposed execution had been circulating since yesterday, and he initially thought it was a false rumor. However, upon hearing the confirmation from the Old Madam, he felt a chill in his hands and feet. "My silly child, stop crying. How can Great-Grandmother bear to see you sad?" The Old Madam noticed his cold hands and said, "Oh my, your hands are so cold. Let me warm them up for you."

Qing Ge'er placed his hands in the Old Madam's palms and said with a deep breath, "Great-Grandmother, you're unwell. Let me warm your hands. You lie down, and I'll take care of you."

The Old Madam smiled warmly. "Qing Ge'er is truly filial. Great-Grandmother didn't dote on you in vain." Qing Ge'er wasn't naive; he knew who his pillar of support was.

Although his father also cared for him, several days could pass without seeing each other.

The one he could rely on the most was his Great-Grandmother.

"When will your illness be cured, Great-Grandmother? I worried all night and couldn't sleep. Can I sleep with you tonight? I want to stay by your side and watch you recover."

"Yes, yes, yes. Tonight, you can accompany me."

The grandmother and grandson were quite affectionate.

Yan Mama couldn't help but feel uneasy. Although the young master was filial to the old lady, when he grew up and learned that his own mother had been strangled by the old lady, would he still hold the same sentiments towards her?

As night fell, after Young Master Qing Ge'er fell asleep, Yan Mama asked Old Madam Lu, "Are you really going to let her go?"

Old Madam Lu gave a cold smile, devoid of the kindness she showed during the day.

"You go there yourself and check if that nun in the temple is still alive."

Without Old Madam Lu having to explain further, Yan Mama knew which temple she was referring to. She frowned and asked, "It's been decades. What if that nun has passed away?"

Old Madam Lu said, "Even if she has passed away, those methods and poisons won't be lost. Which family doesn't have some dirty business to handle? It all depends on whether they can afford the silver."

"You go find out if she had any disciples."

Yan Mama nodded, sighing, "Those were the methods used to deal with Old Master and his concubine decades ago. You've reached this age, yet you still want to use them on your grandson's concubine. Sigh!"

In the main wife's lifetime, she couldn't escape the torment of being labeled a lowly woman!

Old Madam Lu, herself didn't think much of it, but she couldn't bear to involve young Master Qing.

Yan Mama worried, 'The concoction that woman developed in the past is indeed effective. Although the toxicity is slow, it takes a year or two to claim a life, it appears like a natural death and doesn't attract any attention. It's quite a clever method.

"I wonder if the nun's methods have been passed down; if they have, that would be excellent! Our mansion will be peaceful in the future."

Old Madam really wished to eliminate Ge Bao'er quickly, but as soon as she thought of Young Master Qing Ge'er's pitiful plea to spare his mother, she felt distressed and said, "Look at the pitiful appearance of him begging me to spare his mother just now. If it weren't for fear of hurting him, I wouldn't have any reservations! Now, I can only plan slowly like this."

Yan Mama said, "Don't worry; tomorrow, I'll make this trip. You should rest first."

~

The next day.

Yan Mama went out early in the morning.

Old Madam Lu summoned Lu Zhengliu and asked him what he thought.

"Your mother and Yunwan, neither of them can tolerate her. Do you want to keep her in the mansion, or would you rather send her away?"

Lu Zhengliu clenched his fists and hesitantly asked, "How did Yunwan talk to you? Is she... angry with me?"

"Now you regret it? If you had been harmonious with Yunwan earlier, you wouldn't have to regret now."

Old Madam Lu was truly angry with him; after all, Yunwan was the daughter-in-law his grandfather had begged for despite losing face!

Lu Zhengliu had nothing to argue about. He said, "Bao'er is still the mother of Young Master Qing Ge'er. Sending her away would hurt Young Master Qing Ge'er. It's better to keep her in the mansion."

He promised Old Madam Lu, "Grandmother, I won't touch her again in the future. Just consider it as maintaining a living."

Old Madam Lu sighed, "Go and tell Yunwan these things yourself."

Lu Zhengliu remained silent.

"The future is long, and they have many days ahead as husband and wife. He will eventually make it up to her." Old Madam Lu muttered to herself as she watched his back leave.

Leaving Yu Shou Tang, Lu Zhengliu returned after finishing his patrol at night and went to see Lin Yunwan.

"I've discussed with grandmother. I'll make cousin Bao'er my concubine."

Upon hearing this, Zhuqing looked straight at Lu Zhengliu, shaking her head in disappointment.

Lin Yunwan put down the book in her hand and asked, "Is this the Heir's decision, or is it grandmother's?"

"It's... my decision," Lu Zhengliu replied.

Lin Yunwan nodded. "I understand." Her expression turned very cold as she said, "I can't intervene in the matters of the Ge family. Once the Heir handles it, I will arrange a position and a residence for her."

Knowing she was not pleased, Lu Zhengliu didn't rush to explain anything.

Before leaving, he dropped a sentence, "You'll understand later." Understand his helplessness.

If not for his helplessness, he wouldn't have taken this concubine.

Zhuqing sighed.

The Heir missed a good opportunity this time.

Ah.... Is anyone else wondering if this mysterious poison is how Lin Yunwan actually died?

  1. I had the same thought when it came up. Just wondering how and why did they come to the decision to poison her, just how persuasive BaoEr to manage to convince the grandma.

    1. I wondered that too... at least in this second lifetime the Old Madam is very dependent on Yunwan... maybe it was after grandma had died?

    2. I'm absolutely convinced, given the Lus brainless disposition, regardless of anything, they would fall in less than 10 years.

  2. Lu Zhengliu promises are worth less, than one gramm feces. Thank you for the chapter.
