Favoring Concubines and Destroying Wives? I Refuse to be the Mistress of this Marquis' Mansion

Chapter 44:

Put Under House Arrest

Absolutely unreasonable!

Lin Yunwan actually suspected that he had issues in that aspect!

If he had a problem, how could he have a son like Qing Ge'er?

Almost, he almost revealed the truth to Lin Yunwan.

His trusted servant Wei'er came over and asked, "Young Master, do you still want the Mama to prepare contraceptive medicine for you in the future?"

Lu Zhengliu coldly replied, "No need."

Otherwise, Lin Yunwan might really think that he had a problem.

Someday, he would make her see with her own eyes that he had no issues.

The moment this thought surfaced, Lanzheng Lui pinched the bridge of his nose.

"What's going on..." Recently, whenever he thought about anything related to Lin Yunwan, he became extremely irritated.

However, what bothered Lu Zhenglui even more was yet to come.

~

"After tomorrow, your eldest sister's family is coming. Take a day off and personally go to the pier to welcome them."

Old Madam Lu gathered everyone and first instructed Lu Zhenglui. Then, she reminded Lin Yunwan, "If there are any places in the house that haven't been well arranged, hurry and take care of it. Don't make our relatives uncomfortable when they arrive. Your elder sister's father-in-law, although reassigned to the captiol, is said to be a student of a high-ranking cabinet official. This time, the Elder of the Cabinet is specifically trying to promote him!"

Madam Wei exclaimed, "A student of the Cabinet Elder? Heavens, why didn't A'Jia mention this to us!"

She became nervous all of a sudden, fearing that there might be mistakes in the arrangements for the guests.

Old Madam Lu smiled and said, "Not everything can be casually written in a letter. When they arrive, everything will become clear."

Madam Wei covered her chest and said, "It's really extraordinary for the Xia family to quietly climb up to the level of the Cabinet Elder!"

Old Madam Lu earnestly instructed everyone, "For other matters, follow the usual practices. One crucial thing is that Madam Xia is a very strict person when it comes to rules. If I find out that anyone has embarrassed us in front of the guests, don't blame me for being ruthless!"

Madam Wei nervously responded, "I understand. I will definitely tighten the reins on the people in our house when I go back."

Lin Yunwan responded with a light acknowledgment.

But her Yu Shou Tang had always been strict in its rules, and the maidservants never made mistakes.

In fact, when Old Madam Lu finished speaking, she was the most nervous. There was a harbinger of disaster living in her Yu Shou Tang!

Even Lu Zhengliu was worried that there might be mistakes on Ge Bao'er's side.

The grandmother and grandson exchanged a glance. Old Madam Lu, fearing that others might suspect something, said, "When the lady from the Xia family comes, it's not appropriate for Bao'er to stay with me. I think I'll have her move to the quiet courtyard near the corner gate."

While this statement seemed directed at Lin Yunwan, asking her to arrange the courtyard, it was actually intended for Lu Zhenfliu. He didn't object; moving to a side courtyard was not the same as being sent away, so it wasn't a big deal.

Old Madam Lu continued, "That settles it then."

Madam Wei said, "Old Madam, your grand-niece's matters are still under your control—but what about Miss Bao'er?" How to discuss her matters when she's not present?

Yan Mama stepped forward and said, "Miss Bao'er is copying Buddhist scriptures in her room. We don't need to disturb her for these small matters."

Madam Wei acknowledged with an "Oh" and didn't raise any suspicions.

After settling the arrangements for receiving relatives, everyone dispersed.

The situation changed dramatically for Gao Bao'er, but she was the last one to find out about her own predicament.

Lin Yunwan sent someone to inform, "Yan Mama, the courtyard has been arranged, and Miss can move there anytime."

Nanny Yan then instructed the maidservants to help Ge Bao'er move to the new courtyard. Ge Bao'er, bewildered and anxious, exclaimed, "What are you doing? Don't touch my belongings!"

Yan Mama sneered, "Miss, which item here truly belongs to you? Aren't they all rewards from the Lu family?"

This cold reality soaked Gao Bao'er thoroughly. She suddenly realized that despite her struggles in the Lu family, she never truly had a foothold.

Yan Mama scolded Wu'er, "What are you still standing there for? Help Miss pack her things."

Wu'er hurriedly went to move Ge Bao'er's belongings.

Ge Bao'er, upon arriving at the side courtyard, realized that she wasn't just moving to a new place; she was being confined.

Aside from Wu'er serving her closely, four robust and stout maids guarded the courtyard. They claimed to be doing cleaning chores, but whenever she tried to leave, they formed an impenetrable wall, sternly questioning her, "Miss, where do you think you're going?"

Ge Bao'er couldn't go anywhere.

However, she wasn't one to sit idly by. She instructed Wu'er to find Yan Mama.

"Tell her I'm sick, terribly sick," she pleaded.

Wu'er looked hesitant. "Miss, but you're not sick."

In a fit of frustration and anger, Ge Bao'er grabbed a bucket of water and dumped it over her head. Ge Bao'er, shivering from the cold water she had splashed on herself, sneezed a few times.

"Wu'er, now you can go, right?"

Wu'er, looking at Ge Bao'er's bloodshot eyes, nervously pursed her lips. "Miss, I'll go... Please don't do this again." It was truly frightening!

Wu'er, being free to move around, went outside and found Yan Mama. She explained the situation in the side courtyard with a distressed expression.

Yan Mama responded, "Got it, I'll go right away."

Under the cover of the night, she went to meet Ge Bao'er.

Ge Bao'er, wearing damp clothes, lay in bed, making sure she would definitely get sick.

As soon as she saw Yan Mama, she burst into tears. "I want to see the Young Master, I want my little brother, Qinger..."

Yan Mama looked at her coldly and said, "Miss, what are you making a fuss about? It's not like you're staying here forever. Once the relatives leave, you can move out. What's there to cry about?"

Ge Bao'er bit her lip and said, "Why should I avoid people? Am I not worthy? Why can't I be seen by anyone?"

"Miss, are you telling me a joke? How many jokes have you caused? Do you not know your own status? Can't you see the path you've chosen? It's destined to be years without seeing the light. Why are you only feeling wronged now? It's too late!"

Ge Bao'er sobbed, clutching the bed tightly.

She didn't want to hide away from everyone's sight.

This was not the outcome she desired.

Through tears and coughs, she pleaded, "I want to see the Young Master... Let me see the Young Master..."

Yan Mama ignored her, only offering a cold warning, "If Miss behaves herself, the Old Madam might let you move out. But if you continue causing trouble and disturbing everyone, even the Young Master won't keep protecting you."

As Yan Mama left, Ge Bao'er lay on the bed with closed eyes, trying to patiently wait for what would come.

"Once the relatives of the Lu family leave, I can move out..."

As long as she endured this period, everything would return to normal. She could once again see Lu Zhengliu and Qing Ge'er frequently in the Yu Shou Hall.

Wasn't that what she wanted?

Just be patient, and everything would be fine.

~

Exhausted, Ge Bao'er truly fell ill.

Old Madam Lu wasn't too keen on summoning a doctor for her; she felt it was a bit too much trouble.

"Just grab a couple of doses of medicine for her to take. Zhengliu won't bother going to the side courtyard to check on her. Who knows whether she lives or dies."

"I'll have someone fetch the medicine right away."

After she left, Yan Mama ran into Zhuqing.

  1. I'm wondering for a while, in the first timeline after Yunwen death, how long prospered the Lu family, regardless Qing Ge'er being a top scholar, given the inaptitude and charachterics the members of the family. Thank you for the chapter.

    1. That is something I wish the Author shared as well... sometimes in rebirth stories they will have a dream, or something, that shows them what happened after they were gone. I really wish we got a glimpse into the Maquis Estate after the GLUE Yunwan was gone... No matter how much Bao'er imitates a Madam from a noble house, she isn't! Thank you for reading! :)
