Favoring Concubines and Destroying Wives? I Refuse to be the Mistress of this Marquis' Mansion

 Chapter 210:

The Coziness

"I heard that Miss Lin and Young Master Wen have consummated their marriage."

Cuiqin visited the Lin Mansion to see her family.

Her family now held important positions, so naturally, they were well informed about many things concerning the Lin family.

Cuiqin had talked about various things, and finally mentioned Lin Yunjiao. She added, "But Miss Lin's mother-in-law is formidable. I heard they argue every day."

Lin Yunwan put down the account book, feeling intrigued.

"She dares to argue with her mother-in-law? She's quite bold," she remarked.

Despite her filial duty, even if Lin Yunjiao were to complain to her family, no one in the Lin Mansion would stand up for her.

With Madam Zheng having no say now, who else could Lin Yunjiao rely on?

Cuiqin sighed, "Yes, indeed. I heard that after a few visits home, Master Lin initially sided with Miss Lin, but later stopped going, and whenever Miss Lin returned, he would send her back."

Xiruo had dealings with Lin Yunjiao and knew what kind of person she was.

She disdainfully added, "With the things Miss Lin has done, Master Lin couldn't possibly defend her, could he?"

Cuiqin wondered, "I heard that Miss Lin came back and even argued with Madam. After the argument, she refused to see Madam again and only went to see Master Lin whenever there was something at home."

Lin Yunwan and Xiruo exchanged a glance.

Xiruo chuckled, "It seems Madam is reaping what she sowed!"

"In her attempt to harm the Wangfei, she ended up harming her own daughter. Now that Miss Lin knows the truth, she must resent Madam deeply."

Cuiqin had heard too much about the affairs of the Zheng mother and daughter in the Lin family, and she was tired of it.

"I'll go fetch another bucket of charcoal," she said.

Outside, snow was falling heavily, but inside the house was warm. They had been burning charcoal for most of the day, and it was running low. Just as Cuiqin left, A'Fu arrived.

He came in and said, "Your Highness, His Highness said that Master Su has invited you to dine. He asks you to freshen up and go over."

At this moment, Qi Lingheng was at the Yamen.

Xiruo peeked through the curtains and asked, "Has His Highness returned?"

"His Highness said he didn't have time to return and asked Her Highness to go first. He went directly to the Zhao Mansion from the yamen."

"Got it," Xiruo said.

She went inside, took a hand warmer, and handed it to A'Fu, saying, "You look cold. Sit down and have a cup of tea to warm up!"

A'Fu took the hand warmer and said with a grin, "I won't drink hot tea. Your Highness, I'll take my leave."

Lin Yunwan responded from inside the room.

The table was covered with account books from the palace, brought over from the capital's palace, filling up the entire room.

Xiruo bent down to tidy up a few books and said, "You can look at them another day!"

Lin Yunwan nodded, looking preoccupied.

The palace accounts weren't bad per se, but they weren't quite what she wanted.

Since the Prince had yet to marry, there wasn't anyone truly capable of managing the household affairs, so it was understandable that things weren't perfect.

"That hairpin will do. I don't need to wear it," Lin Yunwan said as she sat in front of the bronze mirror, feeling that she didn't need to dress up too extravagantly. Cuiqin, holding a jade hairpin, hesitated a bit. "But His Highness said you're as bright as the morning sun and look best when dressed up."

"His Highness said that? I had no idea," Lin Yunwan said, somewhat surprised.

Cuiqin then pinned the hairpin into Lin Yunwan's hair and said with a smile, "His Highness did say so, but not in your presence."

It was just something he casually mentioned to her personal maid one day.

Lin Yunwan's mood was extremely good, and she smiled as she left.

A carriage was waiting at the front door, and servants had already prepared the horses.

"Why is the master's carriage here?"

Lin Yunwan descended the steps, leaving clear footprints in the snow, with a maid assisting her.

Qi Lingheng got out of the carriage and approached her, holding her hand.

"Weren't you not planning to come back?"
