Rebirth of the Charming Girl in Space

 Chapter 277:

How can it be the two of you?

"You two are quite something. Usually, you engage in idle mischief, but now you dare to bring outsiders to the village to commit theft in broad daylight. Your audacity is impressive. If you don't explain yourselves properly today, you'll regret crossing paths with me!"

As the villagers observed the anger in the speaker's eyes, they curiously approached to get a closer look. Two households, upon recognizing the culprits, immediately changed their expressions.

In their recent gaze, they could only see the three individuals – the chubby one, the slender one, and the tall one. Assuming they were all outsiders, they didn't think much of it, only to discover that the two inside were actually from their own village.

"Chang Yongsong, Feng Jifang, how can it be the two of you?" exclaimed Zhuang Qinghe in astonishment.

Murong Lingran, with a calm expression, had been in Lihua Village for a few months. Having interacted with many women working in her house, she had heard quite a bit of gossip and was aware of the affairs of both families.

Chang Yongsong was a child of the Chang family in Lihua Village, with a father named Chang Wanbo, a mother named Pan Chunhe, and a younger sister.

Mrs. Pan’s in-laws had passed away due to illness even before she got married.

Her husband went hunting in the mountains when their son was four years old and their daughter was one year old. Unfortunately, he encountered a large bear and, in a state of panic, tumbled down the slope.

After being rescued, the doctor stated that he had suffered severe injuries to his lower back and would never be able to stand again, remaining paralyzed to this day.

Mrs. Pan, left alone with two young children, had the added responsibility of caring for her bedridden husband, making their lives incredibly challenging.

Despite having five acres of land, her husband was the only son, and with no uncles or cousins for support. When her husband had the accident, and the children were still young, she couldn't manage much work.

Over the years, she gradually sold off one acre after another to cover her husband's medical expenses and ensure her two children wouldn't go hungry. Now, relying on livestock and vegetable cultivation, life has become quite challenging for her.

With daily concerns about survival, covering medical expenses, and ensuring her children are fed, Mrs. Pan found herself stretched thin, making it difficult for her to provide proper guidance and discipline for her children.

As Chang Yongsong grew up, for the past two years, he would go to the city every day. Moreover, he would bring back some silver each month, claiming to his mother that it was earned through his labor.

Mrs. Pan was pleased that her son could contribute and proudly shared with others that her hardships were paying off.

However, as time passed, some villagers started noticing him associating with troublemakers and thugs from the city. Some even witnessed him intentionally colliding with people and skillfully picking their pockets afterward.

Knowing her struggles, concerned villagers returned to tell her about Chang Yongsong's activities. Stealing is, after all, illegal, and in the capital, there are plenty of influential people. If he steals from the wrong person, it could cost him his life, and Mrs. Pan wouldn't be able to bear such consequences.

After hearing this, Mrs. Pan advised her son to avoid associating with morally questionable people and urged him to stop engaging in such activities. However, each time, he would verbally reassure her while continuing his involvement with troublemakers behind her back.

The villagers knew Chang Yongsong as someone who didn't shy away from mischief, but he had never caused trouble within the village before. It was unexpected that this time he would target his own community.

On the other hand, Feng Jifang was the eldest son of the Feng family in the village, initially having a decent character and being obedient. However, after growing up and going to the city, he became captivated by the wealth and luxury. Neglecting honest work, he started seeking quick riches through dubious means and somehow ended up associating with Chang Yongsong.

Feng Jifang's father is Feng Wenbo. Due to having received some education, he works as an accountant in a tavern in the city. He leaves early in the morning and returns late at night, sometimes being so busy that he can't make it home in the evenings. Consequently, he has limited time to discipline his son.
