Rebirth of the Charming Girl in Space

 Chapter 230:

 No Appreciation

Murong Zhe was about to head to the backyard but overheard voices in the main hall. He came out and sighed, "Father, there's no need to say more. Our family really doesn't have two thousand taels. Even if we sell the house and land, it won't be enough. Based on what Mother said just now, even if we had it, I wouldn't give it."

He wouldn't forgive anyone who dared to harm Murong Lingran, even if it was his own mother.

Feeling remorse for the hurtful words Madam Liu said earlier, Murong Liang looked at Murong Lingran with regret. After some contemplation, he said, "A’Zhe, it's okay if you can't produce the money. Your former colleagues..."

"No use," Murong Zhe shook his head. "When A’Ran was sick before, didn't you go to many people with me? Back then, you hesitated to lend me a hundred and fifty taels. It's even more impossible for two thousand now."

Murong Liang thought about it and realized Murong Zhe was right.

Suddenly, Murong Lingran asked, "Grandfather, where did Uncle lose the money in gambling?"

"It seems like he mentioned the Xiang House Gambling Den."

Murong Lingran raised an eyebrow. Could it be the Xiang House she was familiar with?

"A’Ran, why are you asking about this?" Murong Liang asked excitedly. "A’Ran, do you have a solution?"

Murong Lingran shook her head. "No, I just feel that the timing of my little uncle's debt is a bit suspicious."

A solution? She had plenty.

However, based on Madam Liu's words from earlier, she would be out of her mind to rush to help her uncle in these circumstances.

She dared to guarantee that even if she helped Murong Qi and Murong Xue, they would never appreciate it.

When she was unconscious, Murong Qi had driven her and her father out of their home. If it weren't for her father's insistence on treating her, she might have died long ago.

What they could do, she could do too. Now that they were in trouble, she had refrained from openly mocking them. That was already her kindness.

She was just a little curious, asking casually.

Murong Zhe carefully recalled what Murong Qi said earlier, questioning, "Lingran, do you think there's another story behind little uncle's debt?"

Murong Lingran nodded. "Think about it. He has been in the city for several months now. He chose to gamble at a time when our vegetable business is stable, and we have some surplus money. Why would he gamble so much at this time?"

Murong Liang thought about the fact that his youngest son had been called away by someone working with him just before this happened. Shocked, he said, "Lingran, are you suggesting that he might have been set up?"

"Just a possibility."

But there was another possibility, more likely and frightening, one she dared not say out loud for now.

The expressions of the people present showed simultaneous shock.

Murong Liang couldn't believe his youngest son was so foolish. If the news spread, it would be embarrassing.

"Lingran, you might be overthinking it. Your little uncle might think you've earned some money recently and... maybe he thinks things are still the same as before. He is probably sure that you'll come forward to help, just like in the past, so he dared to gamble so much."

"Maybe," Murong Lingran agreed. "But for now, these are just our speculations."

Murong Liang hesitated and said, "Lingran, regardless of whether he was set up or not, even if we go to confront them, it's useless. The mistake has already been made, and the debt is real. Do you really have no way, none of you?"

Murong Lingran sighed. "Grandfather, our family really doesn't have so much money."
